Seeking grants to enable the council to create a community radio station

This project initiated by the Bafut Council is geared at creating a community radio within the municipality. Through this project, the Bafut Council wishes to address the gap between urban governance and the residents of the villages, with specific focus on the Rural Poor. We are looking to bring to light the issue of development, governance, effective community participation, awareness creation on pandemic diseases and public events within the municipality. This entails broadcasting information about development, municipal proceedings, having open discussions on civic issues that affect the Bafut people most especially children, creating awareness about pandemic diseases like cholera, HIV/AIDS malaria etc. The project aims to provide education, entertainment and to connect people (through participatory or circular communication), organizations and communities, and ultimately, the government and public service agencies.

This project has as main developmental goal to contribute to the enhancement of civic participation and good governance through the participation of communities and dialogue amongst community members on a public platform. More specifically the project intends to provide a self-sustaining community radio station capable of engaging community members in a participatory mode in talking out developmental civic issues in self-expression, and enabling them to share and access information on civic issues (which broadly cover sectors such as Agriculture, Health, Livestock, Water, Public Works, Housing, Power, Tourism, Women’s empowerment, Social Affairs etc), will be established. If this project is implemented it will lead to the creation of a fully operationalized community radio in Bafut. This project is designed to run for 12 months with a total project sum of 27,592,500 FCFA.

Creating a community radio station within the Bafut municipality at this point in time is crucial. This is because of the increasing request by villagers in participating in information sharing as far as development is concerned. This project will help address the gap between urban governance and the residents of the village, with specific focus on the Rural Poor. This project will bring to light issues of development, governance, effective community participation, awareness creation on pandemic diseases and public events within the municipality. This entails broadcasting information about development, municipal proceedings, having open discussions on civic issues that affect the Bafut people, creating awareness about pandemic diseases like cholera, HIV/AIDS malaria etc.

Information is power; therefore your support to the Bafut Council in the implementation of this project will be highly applauded.
