This morning, as we celebrated World Environment Day, Mayor Manuel De Araújo of Quelimane Municipality, Mozambique, in his capacity as Vice Chair of the ICLEI Africa Regional Executive Committee and Co-chair of the Resilience portfolio on the ICLEI Global Executive Committee, officially declared the proceedings of the African Capital Cities Sustainability Forum (ACCSF) as a Cities and Regions Talanoa Dialogue. ICLEI will report this Talanoa Dialogue into the UNFCCC process leading up to COP24.

Present at the ACCSF in Tshwane, South Africa, are city leadership from 35 Capital Cities throughout Africa, as well as ICLEI Africa’s Regional Executive Committee, gathering with representatives from national governments, the private sector, civil society and international organisations. At this Cities and Regions Talanoa Dialogue, they are sharing experiences of the impacts of climate change and the challenges and opportunities of addressing these in an African urban context.
