The City of Joburg takes a stand against obesity and unhealthy lifefstyles by joining forces with Magic Melts and Green Enviro Management Systems to launch a new low-cost health bread, made from mango flour and orange leaves.

The City has dedicated R50m to kick start the initiative which will produce 250 loaves of bread from 70 specially-trained bakeries daily. Not only will this aid in food security, but it will also create thousands of jobs in Small, Medium and Micro-sized Enterprises (SMMEs).

“A healthy and nutritious loaf of Joburg bread will only cost you R7.50. What excites me most is that we’re able to give people a longer and healthy life,” said Mayor Tau.

The bread contains no sugar or salt and is offered in several other varieties – burger buns, bread rolls, cheese bread, muffins and French loaf.
