Using climate information for adaptation and policy development

The Climate System Analysis Group (CSAG) based at the University of Cape Town will be running its annual course, 'Winter School : Using climate information for adaptation and policy development', from 30 June-11 July 2014.

This 2-week intensive course has been developed specifically for participants from developing country and aims to take participants through the full spectrum of climate and climate change related topics. These include understanding:

  • Climate dynamics
  • Risk and vulnerability framing
  • Climate modeling
  • Climate change scenarios
  • Accessing and understanding climate information
  • Climate adaptation frameworks
  • Downscaling methods
  • Adaptation planning, policy and decision making

This course is of benefit for professionals who are dealing with decision and policy development incorporating climate and climate change issues within many sectors including Government Departments and Ministries, City Councils and Local Municipalities, NGO’s, corporate organizations and environmental consultancies.

Online application is now open on our website – and early application is encouraged as places are limited. The first round of applications will close on the 25th April 2014. These applications will then be reviewed and successful candidates will be notified by the 9th May 2014. The final deadline for applications will be 31st May 2014. All remaining applications will then be reviewed and successful candidates will be notified by the 6th June 2014.

The full course fee (excluding accommodation) is US$2600. A limited number of sponsorships are available for applicants especially from African countries.
