Project summary

LISTEN, LEARN & LEAP is an international and transdisciplinary project that aims to investigate the potential for nature-based solutions (NbS) to advance equitable and sustainable climate resilience in East African cities. Our objective is to explore the impacts of, and potential for nature-based solutions in urban informal settlements to foster climate resilience, with a particular focus on issues of equity, sustainability, and scalability. Engaging with diverse stakeholders including women and young people, our action research project seeks to co-produce NbS initiatives with low-income residents living in watersheds and coastal areas in Nairobi and Dar es Salaam. LISTEN, LEARN & LEAP aims to fill existing knowledge gaps by exploring the factors that support the uptake, sustainability and institutionalisation of equitable NbS in riparian and coastal areas of Nairobi and Dar es Salaam.

Project aims

LISTEN – Document existing NbS initiatives in Dar es Salaam and Nairobi.

LEARN – Experiment with participatory methodologies to develop new NbS initiatives.

LEAP – Facilitate cross-sectoral dialogue to drive scale-up of community-driven NbS initiatives.
