Resource summary
Building urban resilience in Africa. African cities are on the frontline of climate risk and climate solutions. African cities face rising climate shocks alongside rapid urban growth, service backlogs, inequality and constrained municipal resources. These pressures do not occur in isolation: they interact to create compound and cascading risks across urban systems.
ICLEI Africa, in partnership with the African Union Commission and GIZ, with financial support of the German Government, has launched a new action document setting out a shared agenda for accelerating urban resilience across Africa. Developed through the African Continental Dialogue Symposium held in Cape Town earlier this year, the document brings together priorities and commitments shaped by 20+ African city leaders and urban practitioners.
