African cities lead the way into a new era of food system collaboration

Last month, mayors, city officials and global experts gathered in Kisumu, Kenya, to chart a new path for food systems research in Africa.The meeting marked a significant milestone in the ambitious urban food systems project, AfriFOODlinks. It served to inspire collaborative and innovative action on food system governance across the various project cities.

Cape Town Food Dialogues 2023: Strengthening multi-stakeholder action through dialogue

Over 500 Cape Town residents converged for the 2023 Food Dialogues in July, spanning walking tours, art exhibits, workshops, and virtual conferences. Since its launch in 2014, the annual event has bolstered multi-stakeholder collaboration in Cape Town’s food system. Focused on the ‘food system and polycrisis’ theme, discussions tackled interconnected challenges like climate issues, pandemics, water scarcity, and conflicts.

ICLEI and FAO launch a handbook to support circular food systems and food security in Latin America

The City Practitioners Handbook series supports local governments that wish to apply circular development principles to their priority areas of intervention. The Circular Food Systems in Latin America Handbook (available in Portuguese) is the first adaptation of the City Practitioners Handbook: Circular Food Systems.
