Member summary

The City of uMhlathuze Local Municipality is the third-largest municipality in KwaZulu-Natal Province, South Africa. Home to the deepest harbour on the African continent, the city is characterised by an impressive network of wetlands and natural water bodies, including Lake Cubhu, Lake Mzingazi, Lake Nsezi and Lake Nhlabane. Popular with nature enthusiasts and bird watchers, uMhlathuze offers extensive green spaces and the Alkantstrand Blue Flag Beach. As an ICLEI Africa member, the municipality is committed to sustainable urban development, environmental stewardship, and strengthening resilience while balancing economic growth with the protection of its natural assets.
