Commune of Sarh, Chad

Sarh stands on the Chari River in Chad's well-watered south, roughly 560 km south-east of N'Djamena, and is the country's third-largest city as well as capital of the Moyen-Chari province. Founded in the colonial era as Fort-Archambault and renamed in 1972 for the Sara people, it is a centre of Chad's cotton industry and an important base for commercial fishing on the Chari. Its airport and road links make it the transport and trading hub of the southern regions, and the municipality runs a recurring “opération ville propre” clearing waste and drainage channels around the central market.
