Member summary

Nansana Municipal Council is a fast-growing urban local government in Wakiso District, located less than 10 km from Uganda’s capital city, Kampala. Home to vibrant markets, diverse communities, and key educational institutions, Nansana plays a strategic role in the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area.

As a rapidly urbanising municipality, Nansana is proactively addressing the pressures of population growth through community-centred climate action, environmental governance, and youth-led sustainability initiatives. Since joining the ICLEI Africa network in 2023, the municipality has strengthened its commitment to inclusive, climate-resilient development — positioning itself as an emerging leader in local climate action among Uganda’s secondary cities.
