ABOUT

Member summary

Nyendo-Mukungwe is a division of Masaka City, in Uganda’s Buganda Region, some 130 km south-west of Kampala on the trans-African corridor linking the country to Rwanda, the DRC and Tanzania. It was formed when Masaka attained city status in July 2020, absorbing the former Katwe-Butego division, and takes in the busy Nyendo and Katwe trading areas across fourteen wards — the larger of the city’s two divisions by population. Its economy reflects the wider city’s base in agriculture, trade, cooperatives, financial services and tourism, and the division’s leadership has made solid waste management a first-order priority, intensifying collection in the Nyendo and Katwe areas following the acquisition of a new garbage truck.
