Paynesville City Corporation

Paynesville lies immediately east of Monrovia and is Liberia's most populous city, home to some 617 000 residents — a strikingly young population, with almost half under the age of 25. Once a suburb of the capital, it has grown into the country's fastest-expanding commercial centre, with livelihoods concentrated in services alongside agriculture and manufacturing. The City Corporation delivers municipal services across a rapidly urbanising landscape where drainage, sanitation and water access are daily priorities, and leads resilience work through a dedicated Chief Resilience Officer.
