About FRACTAL working papers: This series is funded by the UK’s Department For International Development (DFID) and the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) through the Future Resilience for African Cities and Lands (FRACTAL) project, within the Future Climate For Africa (FCFA) multi-consortia programme. The overarching objective of FCFA is to generate fundamentally new climate science focused on Africa, and to ensure that this science has an impact on human development across the continent. FRACTAL’s main aim is to advance scientific knowledge on regional climate responses to global change, and to enhance knowledge on how to integrate this information into decision making at the city-region scale in Southern Africa. These products have been developed to share initial findings from research in the hope of fostering dialogue, and eliciting feedback to strengthen the research. The opinions expressed are therefore the author(s) and are not necessarily shared by DFID, NERC or other programme partners.
