Resource summary
Between 2021 and 2025, the Smart Energy Solutions for Africa (SESA) Project worked to bridge the energy access gap across the continent. This collaborative initiative between European and African partners focused on developing and testing replicable energy solutions through local “living labs.”
The project explored a range of innovative technologies, including decentralized solar power, smart microgrids, innovative energy storage, and waste-to-energy systems. The core goal was to co-develop scalable business models and technologies that not only provide affordable and reliable energy but also create local economic opportunities and foster social cohesion.
By validating these solutions in real-world settings, SESA laid the foundation for widespread replication, ultimately driving sustainable development and building climate resilience in communities throughout Africa. This Video provides an overview of the impact the SESA project has made in Africa. Learn more at: https://africa.iclei.org/project/smart-energy-solutions-for-africa-sesa/
