Resource summary

This poster provides a snapshot of an intensive research study undertaken in 2022 in Bo City, Sierra Leone under the auspices of ICLEI Africa’s Urban Natural Assets (UNA) programme. The research was undertaken to advance project objectives and ensure effective transformation in the city through mapping and assessing the existing urban natural assets. The aim was to increase knowledge and current understanding of the city’s natural assets, socioeconomic factors and the interlinkages between them to guide the city’s planning, policies and interventions for transformative urban development. The mapping and assessments will also be used to influence local and national decision-making processes and decision makers’ capacity. In addition to the use of geospatial technology in mapping the urban natural assets, a socioeconomic survey of more than 1000 households residing near to the identified natural assets was undertaken. The below infographic gives a brief “snapshot” of some of the key research findings.
