About

Resource summary

Creative expression is a vital aspect of city-making and can guide urban decision making in many ways. Of particular relevance to RISE Africa is the sense of building and sharing visions of city futures. Each RISE Africa Action Festival, the voices of poets are embedded into the 3 day programme via video poems as provocations for discussion and reflection. Poets from different parts of the continent are invited to use joy, passion, resilience, resourcefulness and celebration as entry-points, rather that the typical challenge-solution dichotomy, so the poems to prompt us to imagine, to expand our perspectives and narratives, are provocative, testing or pushing listeners to take their ideas into Action.
