Project summary
The Biomass Energy Africa (BEA) Project is part of France’s commitment to invest €100 million in a just and inclusive transition to clean and efficient cooking by 2030. Funded by the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) and implemented by Hystra across East Africa, BEA responds to an urgent reality: 2.3 billion people still cook with traditional biomass, driving climate change, deforestation, and the deaths of over 3 million people annually from domestic air pollution.
In Uganda, ICLEI Africa’s Clean Cooking Centre serves as both the local coordination partner and the Technical Assistance implementation partner. We provide technical and strategic support to businesses in the clean and efficient cooking sector, helping them improve their products, strengthen their business models, and access financing. We also engage government to identify and promote the policy adjustments needed for a sustainable sector transition.
