Ruby Schalit

Ruby is an urban development practitioner with a multidisciplinary background in planning and communications. As a Professional Officer in ICLEI Africa’s Urban Systems team, she coordinates projects that support African cities to address complex urban challenges through collaborative, locally grounded approaches. Her work spans food systems, resilience, waste, public space and placemaking, with a particular interest in how local knowledge, lived experience and creative practice can shape more equitable cities. Ruby also brings extensive experience in communications, helping to translate research and technical knowledge into accessible narratives, learning processes and practical resources for cities. She holds a master’s degree in Development Planning from the University of the Witwatersrand.
