Endorsed by AMCEN in 2025, this regional roadmap sets out why urgent action is needed to end open waste burning, what national governments, local authorities, and finance institutions need to do, and how these actions can be delivered. It provides a shared political mandate and framework behind the continent-wide push to phase out open burning.
Kisumu City Transformational Action Plan
This plan shows how the Africa Roadmap was piloted on the ground in Kisumu, Kenya, translating the regional framework into a locally-led action plan built around eight objectives.
End Open Burning Awareness Raising Framework
Developed by ICLEI Africa with input from local government practitioners across the continent, this guide equips municipal officials to design effective awareness and behaviour-change campaigns against open burning. It combines communication principles, real city case studies, and ready-to-use messaging tailored to African contexts.
